Silicon Valley Bank Closed by Regulators, FDIC Takes Control
Silicon Valley Bank, one of the tech sector’s favorite lenders, is shutting down. The FDIC decided to close Silicon Valley Bank, the subsidiary of SIVB, this morning, in its first bank closing of 2023. It is the first bank closure since 2020 when four closings took place. In its resolution of the failed bank, the FDIC is opting for a 'bridge bank' solution.
A bridge bank is a temporary bank set up by federal regulators to operate a failed or insolvent bank. Bridge banks may operate for up to three years in order for regulators to liquidate the bank’s assets resulting in the least impact upon the deposit insurance fund. Bridge banks are typically set up for an insolvent bank as regulators try to find a buyer or bailout.

I want to express my appreciation to the Amherst Chamber of Commerce for organizing the event with the Buffalo Beauts Women's Professional Hockey Team. Being a dad of two very active little girls, it is important to support women's professional sports. Although they were a little scared of the puck bouncing off the glass, as was I, they were excited to cheer on Buffalo's home team! Go Beauts!

Credit Card Spending and Your Financial Plan
When used responsibly and strategically, credit cards can help manage your finances, assist with short-term cash flow needs, and facilitate the building of stronger credit. Using a credit could help with managing your monthly budget and could offer benefits such as cash back services. However, there is a very slipperly slope and I advise caution to all consumers. The practice of budgeting skills should be observed before getting a credit card.

The 8 'rarest' types of employees—they 'simply outperform everyone else,' says career expert
At first glance, I thought I might be #4 The Engineer because I like to take things apart to see how they work. But if you'd ask my wife, she'll tell you that I never figure out how to put things back together "the same way".
Next, I thought #3, The Maverick, was more of a fit because I like to take a more creative approach to problem solving which tend to lead me down roads less travelled.
Ultimately, I think I'm more of The Target Marketer, #6, since being a financial advisor requires me to connect with my target audience by being an active listener and considerate towards clients.

This past year has thrown many retirement accounts out of alignment. The truth is, the economy and stock market have entered uncharted waters and no mathematical formula or scientific model can tell us, with perfect accuracy, where we are going next.
However, there's more to managing wealth than just investments. Where is the greatest element of risk in your investment portfolio? What is the plan to mitigate that risk? As you plan to reduce/control that risk, has this upset your life goals or financial needs?
I can't stress enough about the importance of having a financial plan in place. If you have one in place, when was the last time you reviewed this plan with your advisor or received a second opinion?
The present time is a good time to be asking these difficult questions.

The Great Dig Out 2022!
Mother Nature provided us with over 77" of snow. Growing up in Buffalo, I have seen this amount of snow before but not in such a short period. Now that the storm seems to have passed, I took my girls out to admire some of the beauty around the neighborhood.
Many people from all over have been asking me "how do you deal with all this snow". My response, "one day at a time". Other than running low on gas for the snowblower, we are in good shape.
While we wait for the snow to take a break, we check in with neighbors to make sure everyone has what they need to stay warm and safe. This is what makes us the city of good neighbors!
I hope everyone remains safe and warm!
