Mike Smith, CFP®
Executive Vice President / Wealth Management, Financial Advisor
About Mike

After graduating from Virginia Tech, Mike pursued his career in the financial services industry. Mike began his career in 2007 with a predecessor firm of Wells Fargo. In 2011, he earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation. This equipped him with a comprehensive planning process to examine every element of clients’ financial lives. Mike seeks first to understand his client’s current situation, concerns, risk tolerance, and their financial priorities, and uses this information to formulate an investment strategy and plan. This plan is reviewed on a regular basis and adjusted based on the client’s life changes.

Mike’s passion is engaging with clients who have worked hard their entire lives to create wealth and helping them preserve it for future generations. During his years as an advisor, Mike has worked with clients from all walks of life. He has learned that although each client has unique circumstances that dictate their investment strategy, they all want the same end result: clarity and confidence.

A native of the Carolinas, Mike and his wife Summer reside in Fort Mill, South Carolina. They have four children, Quinn, Brooks, Sloan, and Lane. Spending time with their young family is the top priority for Mike and Summer. Their children are actively involved in dance, softball, baseball, and wrestling. Away from the office, Mike enjoys traveling, reading a good book, attending his children’s sporting events, cheering on the Virginia Tech Hokies or Baltimore Orioles, and spending time with close friends and family.

Tonya's Photo
Tonya Lynn McMahon
Branch Operations Assistant
About Tonya

Tonya was born in Olean, New York to a father in the Airforce who had "a wandering foot". She graduated from Sun valley High in Monroe- her third high school and 12th school overall. This constant change in her living environment taught her at a very young age how to adapt quickly to changing situations. She's called Charlotte, North Carolina home for the past three decades and currently lives in Gaston County with her husband Robert and their two younger children, while their oldest son lives nearby. When not at work, she likes to crochet and is active in the Society for Creative Anachronism, a 503c charity that recreates the arts and sciences of the Middle Ages. Be careful asking her about these hobbies, as she is quite enthusiastic!

Tonya fell into the financial services industry in 1996 when a temporary position led to a new world of interesting opportunities, and she hasn’t looked back since. She was recruited by her prior firm's IRA department in 1998 and instantly knew that she had found her career. She loved that IRA's are - at the surface- so simple, and yet the rules and regulations can become so complex. She spent 18 years in the call center, becoming a subject matter expert on IRA and Brokerage rules and regulations, and how those impacted clients. Her last two years in the call center were spent teaching and coaching other employees and assisting them with urgent and sensitive situations. While working full times, she completed her bachelor’s in accounting from the University of Phoenix.

She then moved on to a role in the regional branch office working with the Operations and Risk managers to further her knowledge of how things work. During this time, she worked as an assistant for Al Grenert and Michael Smith. She was once more recruited for a new position- transitioning into a role as a Governance Specialist. She became an important liaison between the firm's compliance group and the financial advisors in the greater Charlotte / western Carolina area, working with 90 Financial Advisors at a time. Tonya polished her professional communication and diplomatic skills during this time, finding the pathway to balance the daily needs of her financial advisors' clients while staying within the boundaries of the regulatory authorities. However, she missed her interactions with "her" clients, so left her role in Risk to return to work with Al Grenert and Michael Smith.

While Tonya has her brokerage licenses and could have chosen to be an advisor, she prefers to leave the focus on investments and the markets to Al and Michael. Tonya loves being the operational spoke of the team, making sure that all client requests are completed quickly and correctly. She also focuses on the risk aspects and future client needs such as adding or making changes to beneficiaries, adding power of attorney, or other changes to a client profile or investment strategy that need to adjust with life circumstance. She has a wealth of knowledge that she brings with her, but she also focuses on the human aspects of the industry. Tonya firmly believes that being proactive is the best way to do business and strives to think ahead and anticipate client needs so that she can deliver world class customer service to each and every person we interact with. This position is her professional forever home and brings her a great deal of joy.
