Jay is a Colonel in the United States Army Reserves. He was activated last fall to serve a tour in Afghanistan. His duties are divided between being the Deputy Commander of the remaining U.S. troops at Bagram Air Base and serving as the Senior Medical Advisor to the US Commander of Forces for Afghanistan. The majority of his mission is focused on supporting the Afghan military services and their soldiers who may be wounded. The level of activity is higher than most would assume. Thankfully, there are few US Service members currently in harm’s way so the press has largely forgotten about the process.
