Today we’d like to introduce you to James Jackson.

I am a financial advisor and I help high net worth individuals and families achieve what’s important to them and their families by offering comprehensive goals-based wealth management solutions. In addition to my work as a financial advisor, I am an advocate for finding a cure for cancer and serve as Board Chair for the American Cancer Society’s Volunteer Leadership Board of Broward.

I started my career in New York, NY in investment banking and got my first job on Wall Street with Goldman Sachs as a 19-year-old summer intern in their corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions division. Upon graduating Morehouse Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in finance and economics, I went on to work full time in investment banking and private equity between New York, NY and La Jolla, CA.

I was in my mid-twenties enjoying my work and loving life when I was suddenly and unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 testicular cancer. I had six tumors in my body, two of which were in my back and caused me to have two fractures, as well. I was on an intensive chemo treatment schedule for five months where I lost over 5o lbs., dealt with blood clots in my lungs and was on heavy pain meds to deal with the two fractures in my back. After I got through chemo and was cancer-free, I took a month off then had spinal fusion surgery to deal with the two fractures in my back.

I am extremely blessed and fortunate to say I am over 12 years cancer-free. I thank God for blessing me and bringing me through everything I endured.

I initially returned to work at my 85/hour work week private equity job but ultimately decided I needed a change. I took some time off to travel the world before moving back to South Florida where I was born and raised.

I love my job as a financial advisor because I get to help people achieve what’s important to them and their families. I help my clients with their financial and retirement planning, life, and long-term care insurance needs and help them build tax-efficient portfolios. I get to help my clients the same way so many people helped me fight cancer.

I have experienced multiple highs and lows. I try not to let the highs go to my head and try to minimize the low points and learn from past experiences. I try to be emotionally stable at all times.

I was born in Miami and raised mostly in Ft Lauderdale and absolutely love how diverse it is in south Florida and all the different cultures and backgrounds that are represented here. I like beautiful beaches and great weather. And I like the social sense and nightlife. However, I am not the biggest fan of how materialistic our city has become.
