Lou Holtz asked one question every day - What’s Important Now? (W.I.N)
As a linebacker at Notre Dame, I thought that was about football. Get off the ball. Make the tackle. Win the rep in front of you.
Thirty years later, I use it every single day as a financial advisor — and it might be the most important framework I bring to a client relationship.
Because here’s the truth most advisors won’t tell you:
Markets can be noisy. Headlines can be scary. There will be a reasons to wait, panic, or do nothing.
W.I.N. cuts through all of it.
When I sit down with a family, I’m not asking “what did the market do last week?” or “what might happen in 2027?”
I’m asking:
→ What does this family need right now?
→ What does this portfolio need to do today?
→ What’s the one disciplined move that moves the needle?
That’s it.
Lou didn’t build champions by thinking about the championship. He built them one rep, one decision, one moment of discipline at a time.
Wealth is no different.
Built Not Born™️ isn’t a slogan. It’s a process. And the process starts with one question.
What’s important now?

Personal Story: Notre Dame to Wall Street
"Built not Born"
I was not supposed to be at Notre Dame.
I went to a small private school where D1 football was something you watched on television, not something you planned for. But I put the work in — morning by morning, rep by rep — and in 1988 I was on a Notre Dame National Championship team as an All-American and the team's leading tackler.
Nobody gave me that. I built it.
That's the same mindset I brought when the NFL was over and I walked into Kidder Peabody in the early '90s with zero finance background. I didn't have a Harvard MBA. I had 32 years of learning — from Bear Stearns to JP Morgan to Janney Montgomery Scott — built on the same principles I learned on the field.
Built, not born.
When I sit across from a business owner who just sold their company for $35M, or a 20-year-old NIL athlete who doesn't know what a Roth IRA is, I tell them the same thing I tell my three D1 sons:
The game rewards preparation. The financial game is no different.
I've spent 32 years building a system that works whether you're in the top tax bracket or just getting started. Twelve strategies. Every dollar with a purpose. Every phase of your life covered.
If you want to talk about building something that lasts — not something you inherited, but something you built —
Let's talk about putting together a plan:
