Pound the Pavement for Peter
Saturday March 23, 2024 members from our Atlanta Complex participated in the Pound the Pavement for Peter Family 5K Fun Run for Children with Disabilities. 2009 was the first year of Pound the Pavement for Peter event and it was a huge success. They had an overwhelming response from the community, with over 500 participants at the race, and raised over $50,000 – every dollar of which went towards the peroxisomal disorder research study being done at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. This event has become a highly anticipated activity for families and children around the Atlanta area, and has raised awareness both for Peroxisomal Disorders as well as children with other rare diseases and disabilities. Children with severe disabilities and medical fragilities participate in this race alongside other children, and we have watched families affected by rare developmental disorders be inspired by the hope and energy of the community who comes out to support this race. Please click here if you would like to learn more about the organization. 2024 BeneficiariesChildren's Healthcare of Atlanta - Medically Complex Care Center (www.choa.org)Keck School of Medicine - University of Southern California - Dr. Joe HaciaThe Kyle Pease Foundation (www.kylepeasefoundation.org)Extra Special People (www.espyouandme.org)
Atlanta Community Foodbank Hunger Walk & Run
Members of our Janney Atlanta Complex including the Schultz Wealth Management Team and Financial Advisor Jeff Purdon participated in the 40th annual Atlanta Community Food Bank Hunger Walk & Run. For 40 years, thousands of people of various backgrounds and cultures have joined together to end hunger in our community — one step at a time. Walkers and runners participate in this 5K event that benefits six local hunger relief organizations that operate and support hundreds of food pantries, shelters, community kitchens, senior centers, and childcare centers across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. In FY 2022-2023, the Food Bank distributed over 115 million pounds of food, the equivalent of nearly 96 million meals. FY 2022-2023 brought a record 39,000+ volunteer visits and 96,000+ donated hours in support of the Food Bank’s mission. Please click here to learn more about the Atlanta Community Food Bank and their mission.
Holiday Food Drive to Benefit Greer Relief
Our Greer, SC branch hosted a food drive for the benefit of the Greer Relief. We worked with with their organization to fulfill their holiday food pantry needs. Greer Relief is a registered non-profit and their service areas include Greenville and Spartanburg counties, focusing many services in Greer, Taylors, Duncan, Lyman, Wellford and Startex. Prevention is at the core of their mission. In 1936, in the depth of the Great Depression, Greer citizens founded Greer Relief to help prevent their neighbors from starving and freezing. They have continued to fight hunger and homelessness in our community. Their focus has matured with time, and today, they intervene when crisis threatens a family’s life using proven practices that meet needs and offer solutions to alter each family’s trajectory. If you would like to learn more about Greer Relief or get involved, please click here.
