Janney was proud to serve as a Foundation Sponsor of the 11th Annual Charleston Habitat for Humanity Builders Bash last week. But this one was personal.
My daughter Cara Shank recently completed her six-year term on the Charleston Habitat Board. Over those years, we've had the chance to stand together at ground breakings and home dedications – she as a Board Member, me as a sponsor and volunteer – each of us finding our own way to support families stepping into a home of their own for the first time. Those moments don't leave you.
In a region where affordable housing is increasingly out of reach for working families, what Charleston Habitat does is nothing short of remarkable. In 2025 alone, they completed their 100th home build with the help of 1,286 volunteers, 8,500 hours of work, and 588 donors. Behind every one of those numbers is a family whose life looks different because this community showed up.
The "Construction Meets Couture" theme made for a memorable evening, but it's the mission that keeps bringing us back. Congratulations to the entire Charleston Habitat team on a landmark year – and thank you for letting our family be a small part of it.

What an enjoyable evening we had recently at the Dunlin Resort on John’s Island supporting Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Group. There are many caring organizations in the Low Country that work to overcome the barriers of systemic poverty and create opportunities for our neighbors. My wife, Dr Kim Subasic, and I were happy to support their efforts as they empower individuals to reach their full potential by providing basic and emergency needs, education, employment, and health services.

I ran into Jack Kemp recently at a memorial service for a former colleague's spouse. I wasn't surprised to see him there – Jack has always been the kind of leader who shows up when it matters.
We spent some time catching up and reminiscing about the events he used to host for our teams throughout the country. Jack had a way of carrying a room, not just with his words but with how he made people feel. Seeing him again reminded me how much those moments shaped my own approach to leadership.
Thirty years in this industry means you cross paths with a lot of people. The ones who leave a mark are the ones worth staying connected to. If there's someone who had an impact on your career, don't wait for a memorial service to reconnect.
