Francis Anthony Weckenman, also known as Frank A., started his career in 1950. He worked in Philadelphia as a Junior Partner at the investment firm Hecker & Co. in the Cobb - Patmann division. Early in his career, he realized the benefit of having a “team approach” to better service his clientele. In those days, the smaller firms were consolidating and by 1969, his resume reflected more than four different firms, never having formally moved. His last company before joining Janney Montgomery Scott LLC (Janney) was Elkins Stroud Supple (Elkins), where all but one of his partners had retired. Our Father was now thinking about his future business strategy.
By the late 70’s Frank, the eldest son, came into the investment business as a Mutual Fund Manager at Elkins and in December 1979, our Father along with Frank joined Janney as a team. In July 1981, Robert, the younger son, partnered with the group, officially creating Frank A. Weckenman & Sons. Beside his investment expertise, Frank A. shared many special gifts; the most prominent was that of a teacher. He taught us how to have fun, laugh at ourselves, to be confident, caring and compassionate. We learned how to motivate, think positively, be generous, understanding and patient.
The most essential quality our Father shared with us was how to fulfill the roles of a good husband and father. He emphasized a true commitment to his client’s stating, “Our reputation and name are more important than anything else”. Frank A. was a father, business associate, best friend and teacher to his sons and colleagues, and for that, his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
