Special Needs Planning is a very sensitive area of financial planning due to the complexities both in terms of how assets are structured and how family dynamics drive decision making. Beyond spending the time necessary to understand a family, we believe it is vital to understand the nature of the disability, and the relationship the disabled individual has with his or her family. It is only after we have a true understanding of these elements that we can begin crafting a strategy to help a family feel confident in the future. We believe, when applicable, in involving the special needs individual in the planning process. Our experience shows us that a child’s involvement in the plan creates a sense of security and confidence that the future will be sound. Often times, parents fear that there will not be an advocate for their disabled child once they are no longer alive; our process is designed to help encourage a family of advocates so that there are multiple layers of protection at each step of the disabled individual’s life. Through personal experience, we are often inspired by the tenacity and focus of a disabled individual and we thrive on that spirit in helping a special needs family.
