Jim Foley, CFP®, AIF®
Senior Vice President / Wealth Management
About Jim

After leaving active duty in the United States Navy in 1990, Jim began his career in wealth management as a Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch in Chicago. He later joined Smith Barney, where he advanced into leadership roles, working with teams and helping guide offices across the country in positions including Branch Manager and Director of Business Development for the Western half of the country. From 2010 to 2020, he led Janney Montgomery Scott’s Western Pennsylvania offices and, in 2014, was honored to be named one of the top 10 branch managers in the industry by On Wall Street Magazine.

In 2020, Jim made the decision to transition from firm leadership back to working more closely with clients, where he found the greatest fulfillment—helping individuals and families navigate important financial decisions. He partnered with Kenneth Wiland in Aiken, bringing together decades of shared experience, including their time at Robinson-Humphrey–Smith Barney. Following Kenny’s retirement in 2022, Jim stepped into leadership of the combined practice.

Over the course of his career, Jim has developed a broad and practical understanding of wealth management by coaching, leading, and mentoring financial advisors across a range of firms and verticals within the industry. Today, he draws on that experience to help clients navigate complex financial decisions with clarity, sound judgment, and a clear understanding of the resources available to them.

Jim works primarily with individuals and families, often across multiple generations, to help build, manage, and transfer wealth. He assists clients with income planning, philanthropic strategies, and thoughtful wealth transfer, with a focus on providing steady, trustworthy guidance so clients can feel confident in their financial future and legacy.

In 2023, to support the continued growth and long-term succession of the practice, Jim welcomed his youngest son, Jimmy, as a partner. Together, they bring complementary perspectives and a shared commitment to serving clients and their families across generations.

Jim lives in Aiken, South Carolina, with his wife of 40 years, Cynthia. They have four children and seven grandchildren, many of whom live nearby. He is an active member of St. Mary Help of Christians, where he serves on the Parish Finance Council and volunteers in various ministries. He also serves on the Investment Committee for the Diocese of Charleston and Catholic Charities of South Carolina and is a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Aiken.

Outside of work, Jim enjoys golf, trips to the coast, and spending time with his family.

Jim is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and an Accredited Investment Fiduciary®.

Financial Advisor / Wealth Management
About Jimmy

Jimmy brings a thoughtful, planning-driven approach to his work with the Wiland-Foley Advisory Group. He primarily works with individuals and families who want greater clarity and confidence around complex financial decisions, particularly in areas such as tax strategy, estate planning, and long-term wealth management.

His path to financial services was shaped by his time as a Marine Corps officer, where he developed a leadership style grounded in humility, accountability, and a genuine commitment to those he serves. Today, Jimmy applies those same principles to his clients—taking the time to understand what matters most to them and helping ensure their financial decisions align with those priorities.

Many of Jimmy’s clients come to him with successful financial lives but without a clear, cohesive plan. He is known for bringing structure and clarity to complexity, helping clients better understand how their assets are working and what steps are needed to move forward with confidence. His background in military planning, including service in roles such as Platoon Commander, Operations Officer, and Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General of Marine Forces Cyberspace and Space Command, informs his detail-oriented and disciplined approach.

Jimmy is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, and earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Missouri as well as a Master of Professional Studies in Wealth Management from Columbia University.

He remains actively involved in both the military and local community. Jimmy serves as Vice President of Legislative Affairs for the South Carolina chapter of the Military Officers Association of America and continues his service in the Marine Corps Reserve as a Marine For Life Representative. In Aiken, he is a board member of the Green Boundary Club, where he also serves as Chairman of the Membership Committee, and is active in the Aiken Rotary Club as Co-Chair of the Membership Committee and a member of the Board.

Jimmy lives in South Carolina with his wife, Jillian, their two sons, Michael and Nolan, and their rescue dogs, Colby and Bleu. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors, including landscaping, gardening, hunting, and being with his family
