Roughly 4 in 10 American workers say they are behind on retirement planning and saving. Worried this is you?? Sullivan and Russillo Wealth Advisors are here to help put your mind at ease.
Key 401(k) changes going into effect in 2025 could make saving for retirement easier in many ways.
1. Catch up contributions: for 2025 employees can defer $23,500 into 401(k) plans, up from $23,000 in 2024. Workers ages 50 and older can make up to $7,500 in catch up contributions on top of the $23,500 limit.
In 2025, the catch up limit for workers ages 60-63 will increase to $11,250. These workers can save a total of $35,750 in 2025!!!
2. Shorter wait for part time workers: Starting in 2024, employers were required to extend plan access to part time employees who worked at least 500 hours annually for three consecutive years. That thresh hold will drop to two consecutive years in 2025.
3. Mandatory auto-enrollment for new 401(k) plans: Starting in 2025, most 401(k) and 403(b) plans established after Dec 28, 2022, must include automatic enrollment of employees in the plan with a minimum 3% deferral rate.
